I forgot to alter the pattern, though, since I’m very petite so the proportions were a little off (although that worked well for the kid look that I was going for). I ended up buying a Halloween costume pattern meant for animal full-body costumes. I bought materials for the costume back in July, but with work and planning and going on a trip to Disney World, I didn't get a chance to work on this costume until the fall. I decided to make it for the summer and fall cons of 2010 given that it's a perfect costume for the fall season. Sam didn't seem like that difficult of a costume. I take Halloween pretty seriously as I get really into the holiday so Sam was an easy costume choice for me.
#SAM TRICK R TREAT DRAWING MOVIE#
I absolutely love Halloween and I thought the Trick 'r Treat movie was an amazing creepy tribute to all things Halloween. It's something that I've been interested in trying for a long time.

I've made a lot of different costume styles in my Cosplay career, but I've never attempted anything in a mascot style. I've been dreaming of making this costume since the summer of last year when the movie Trick 'r Treat was finally getting release plans for the fall.
#SAM TRICK R TREAT DRAWING UPDATE#
I think he has that Hellraiser show to develop first, though.Timeline of Construction: September - October 2010, Costume update in October 2011Īwards: Photo by Stillvisions was chosen as a Daily Deviation on deviantART on October 12th, 2012 & a photo by Stillvisions was featured in the Youmacon 2013 calendar for the month of October Dougherty has many times teased a sequel, and I’ll be there on opening night if it ever comes to fruition. Like Sam or not, the movie is well worth watching. It doesn’t make fun of itself, it doesn’t try to be too self-aware – it just has a good time with Halloween. Trick ‘r Treat has some of that same sensibility – it’s having fun and giving you a few frights as well. I loved the thrill of a good costume – of being convinced that someone was a real monster, even if only for a second. I was always thrilled to go out in the dark, in costume and mingle with all the other monsters as we harassed the adults with our screaming, running about and demands for sugar treats. I refer to it as a ‘frightfest,’ and what I mean by that is the movie captures that sense of both fun and fear that Halloween generated in me as a child. Trick r’ Treat is great fun, a throwback to an earlier time when a horror movie could revel in its own love of the genre. Only one of the stories features him specifically (the super-fun “Sam,” which also has Brian Cox doing his best John Carpenter impression), but he’s around in each tale. That’s at least partly due to Sam, the through-thread that connects all of the stories. He’s also really fun to draw.Ī great Halloween horror anthology by Writer/Director Michael Dougherty ( Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Trick r’ Treat didn’t make much of a splash when it came out, but has since become a cult favorite. Sam is the burlap-sack wearing character that enforces the rules of Halloween. This week we’re taking a look at one of the elements that makes the movie Trick r’ Treat so fun. I need to get caught up, hopefully in the next week or two.

Sorry I missed last week’s Monster Sketch Monday, folks! The day job is kicking my ass.
